Khor Rori Salalah   Hours

We depart from your accommodation for this Salalah Day Trip at 08:00. Firstly travel along well made roads to Taqah. Here a white sand beach is overlooked by cliffs and behind the beach the town of Taqah. Here a small fort (Sunday-Thursday 09:00 – 14:00) is near the mosque and several older houses. Then continuing east a stop is made at the UNESCO site of Sumhuram (left) and its creek Khor Rori (Open Sat - Wed 8:00 -14:00 & 16:00 - 20:00, Thu - Fri 16:00 - 20:00). Dated to between 1st century BC and 4th AD this was a trading town for Frankincense and on trade routes between Rome and Indian ports like Barigaza (in Gujarat). Khor Rori offers many excellent bird spotting opportunities.

From Khor Rori ascend the mountains behind Salalah and visit the small town of Tawi Attir and its large sink=hole. Continue along the crest of the mountains to the tomb associated with the Prophet Job. The tomb overlooks the Salalah plain and cows and camels roam the areas. Descend and take the road west towards Mugsayl beach  with its white sand on the edge of the Arabian Sea. On the edge of the beach is a bird spotting location which has a variety of sea and wading birds. Continue through the mountains and see some natural Frankincense Trees and enjoy views out to sea over the high cliffs. In the afternoon visit the UNESCO site of Al Balid with its excellent Museum and archaeological park.
